The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works said construction has begun on a 100-meter-long bridge in eastern Laghman province at a cost of more than 52 million afghanis.
In a post on X on Thursday, the Taliban ministry’s
spokesman, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshinas, said the project was launched in Deh
Ziyarat village of Alishang district to address long-standing transportation
problems faced by local residents.
The ministry said the groundbreaking ceremony was attended
by Laghman provincial governor Qari Bakhtiar Moaz, the Taliban’s provincial
director of public works, Mullah Homayoun Ahmadi, along with local officials
and community elders.
According to the statement, the bridge will be 100 meters
long and 9.3 meters wide. The construction has been contracted jointly between
the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works and the private sector and is expected
to be completed within one year.
The ministry said the project will provide daily employment
opportunities for around 100 local residents during construction. Once
completed, it is expected to ease transportation difficulties for about 50,000
families in the area and facilitate the transfer of commercial goods and
agricultural products.
