The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s supreme court says four people were lashed in Kunduz province after being convicted on charges of alcohol consumption and trafficking, and same-sex relations.

In a statement, the court said two of the individuals were each sentenced to two months in prison and 20 lashes. The other two were sentenced to two years in prison and between 20 and 39 lashes.

The statement said the punishments were carried out in Kunduz on Jan. 14.

Since returning to power, the Taliban have publicly flogged convicted individuals in several provinces. The group has also carried out executions, drawing criticism from human rights organizations.
