The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said two people, including a woman, were publicly flogged on Tuesday in Sayid Karam district of Paktia province after being accused of “illicit relations.”
In a statement issued Tuesday, Feb. 3, the Taliban court said a primary court in Paktia sentenced each of the two individuals to one year and six months in prison and 25 lashes.
According to the statement, the punishment was carried out after being approved by the Taliban’s Supreme Court.
The Taliban have repeatedly implemented public floggings and other corporal punishments across various provinces over the past four years, actions that have consistently drawn criticism from human rights groups and international organizations.
