The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Wang Yi told his Iranian counterpart in a phone call that China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

According to Chinese state media, Wang made the remarks during talks with Abbas Araghchi, as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

Wang also called on the United States and Israel to halt military operations as soon as possible and to prevent further clashes and instability in the region.

The conversation comes two days after the United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran. Iranian state media later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the attacks.

Following the strikes, Iran launched retaliatory attacks against Israel and targeted U.S. military bases in the region, according to Iranian officials.

There was no immediate comment from U.S. or Israeli authorities regarding China’s remarks.
The recent escalation marks one of the most serious confrontations between Iran, the United States and Israel in decades. Regional and global powers, including China, have called for restraint, warning that continued hostilities could destabilize the broader Middle East and draw in additional actors.
