The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, warned that restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women and girls could lead to severe humanitarian consequences and may amount to “femicide.”
Bennett shared the warning while releasing a video about his
latest report, saying Afghanistan is facing a deepening crisis as women and
girls continue to be denied access to education and health care.
In the video, Bennett said the Taliban’s policies against
women and girls will lead to “unnecessary suffering, illness and death,” adding
that such measures could amount to femicide if they continue.
He stressed that Afghan women and girls are being
systematically excluded from basic rights and opportunities, a situation he
described as deeply concerning.
Bennett urged the international community to take the
situation seriously and increase pressure to ensure the protection of the
rights of Afghan women and girls.
