The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Keir Starmer said United Kingdom and the United States are considering a plan to secure the Strait of Hormuz, following talks with Donald Trump on military and diplomatic options to ensure safe passage for ships.
According to a report by Independent Persian, Starmer said discussions during his visit to the Middle East also focused on logistical arrangements for vessel transit through the strategic waterway, alongside political and diplomatic efforts.
“We are forming a coalition of countries and working on a political and diplomatic plan, while also assessing military capabilities and the movement of ships through the strait,” Starmer said.
He added that talks with international partners have centered on developing a practical framework to guarantee maritime security in the area.
The Strait of Hormuz has been closed to traffic following an escalation in tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iranian authorities have said vessels must coordinate with Tehran to pass through the waterway.
