The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s refugee commission said nearly 1,000 Afghan migrant families returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan on Wednesday, April 22, amid an ongoing wave of deportations.
According to officials, a total of 943 families crossed back into Afghanistan in a single day. Of these, 741 entered via Torkham, 93 through Spin Boldak, 80 via Abrisham Bridge, and 29 families through Islam Qala.
Authorities said the returning families received various forms of assistance and initial support upon arrival.
The development comes as deportations of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan have sharply increased in recent months, with both governments emphasizing plans to return all undocumented Afghans.
Earlier, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said around 170,000 Afghans returned from Pakistan in November 2025 alone.
According to the agency, nearly 2 million Afghans are still residing in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Taliban officials have said they have so far managed the return process effectively.
