The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Germany has sent a charter flight carrying Afghan deportees to Hamid Karzai International Airport, according to a report by German media outlet Der Spiegel.
The report said the flight, which landed in Kabul late
Thursday night, carried a number of Afghan nationals who had been convicted of
criminal offenses and were being returned to Afghanistan as part of deportation
procedures.
It added that the operation is part of ongoing European
efforts to repatriate rejected asylum seekers and individuals with criminal
convictions.
The development comes amid broader discussions within the
European Union over migration policy, including plans to engage with Taliban
authorities on the return of Afghan nationals whose asylum claims have been
rejected or who are considered irregular migrants or convicted offenders.
Earlier, the European Union indicated it may invite a
Taliban delegation to Europe ahead of the summer to discuss deportation
arrangements and related migration issues with European countries.
