The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s special representative for Afghanistan, said he emphasized the importance of education and women’s participation in the economy during a meeting with a Taliban official in Kabul.
In a post on X, Lindsay said he met with Qari Din Mohammad
Hanif and highlighted the need for an educated population, as well as the
economic opportunities that could come from the active participation of Afghan
women.
The remarks come amid ongoing international concern over
restrictions on women’s education and employment in Afghanistan since the
Taliban’s return to power in 2021, which many countries and organizations say
has affected economic development and humanitarian conditions.
He did not provide further details about the meeting.
