The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority said at least 301 people have been killed and 385 others injured in natural disasters across the country since the start of the current solar year.
In a video message, the agency’s spokesperson, Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, said the incidents, recorded since the beginning of the month of Hamal (March), have also caused widespread destruction to property and infrastructure.
According to Hamad, 1,992 homes were completely destroyed and 7,187 others partially damaged during this period.
He added that heavy rainfall and flooding also destroyed 294 shops and damaged another 307.
The disasters further damaged 57 bridges, 43 mosques, 382 wells and water supply networks, and 580 kilometers of roads, he said.
Hamad noted that 25,988 jeribs of agricultural land and 4,324 jeribs of orchards have been destroyed, while 55,718 trees and 4,630 solar panels were also lost.
In total, 18,817 families have been affected by natural disasters so far this year, the agency said.
