The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban officials have held talks with a U.S. business delegation on investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s mining sector, according to the Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.

The ministry said its Deputy Minister for Policy and Programs, Abdul Rahman Qanet, met with Jeffrey Greico, head of the Afghanistan–U.S. Joint Chamber of Commerce, to discuss expanding cooperation and attracting investment.

According to the statement, Greico expressed readiness to support efforts aimed at increasing investment in Afghanistan’s mining sector.

Qanet welcomed the delegation’s interest and said the Taliban administration would facilitate investment by credible companies in line with the country’s mining laws and relevant procedures.

The two sides also discussed a range of issues related to mining extraction and development, the ministry added.

Greico has previously met with other Taliban officials to explore cooperation on various economic matters.

The meeting comes amid growing interest from foreign investors in Afghanistan’s mineral resources, seen as a key sector for potential economic development.
