The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran has launched exports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Afghanistan and Pakistan using multimodal transport, Iranian port authorities said.
Ali Askari, head of the Khorramshahr Ports and Maritime Organization, said the move marks an important step toward expanding export routes and strengthening the port’s role in Iran’s logistics network.
He added that the first shipment of LPG to Afghanistan and Pakistan through combined transport methods has been successfully completed.
Multimodal transport involves the use of multiple forms of transportation — such as ships, railways and trucks — under a single contract.
The development comes as the Taliban have sought to increase imports from Iran following the closure of border crossings with Pakistan.
Trade volume between Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan is estimated at around $4 billion.
