The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid has visited the Wakhan Corridor and the Pamir region in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan province amid reports of growing internal divisions within the Taliban.
In a statement, the Taliban's Ministry of Defense said Mujahid toured several districts in Badakhshan, including border areas adjoining China, Tajikistan and Pakistan.
According to the ministry, the defense minister visited the districts of Zebak, Ishkashim, Kuran wa Munjan, as well as artillery positions in Wakhan and the Pamir region.
The ministry did not provide further details about the purpose of the visit.
The trip comes as reports in recent days have suggested growing internal disagreements among some Taliban factions, particularly in northern Afghanistan. Some reports have also alleged tensions involving Badakhshan-based local Taliban commander Juma Khan Fateh, although the Taliban have not officially commented on those claims.
