The Kabul Tribune (KT) — One person was killed in a traffic accident on the Mazar-i-Sharif–Hairatan highway in northern Afghanistan’s Balkh province, Taliban authorities said Thursday.
The Taliban’s police command in Balkh said the crash occurred when a heavy cargo truck collided with a Toyota Corolla.
In a statement, the police command attributed the accident to driver negligence but did not identify the victim or provide additional details about the circumstances of the crash.
The authorities urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and avoid speeding, saying excessive speed increases the risk of fatal accidents.
Traffic accidents are common on Afghanistan’s roads, where poor infrastructure, reckless driving and limited enforcement of traffic regulations frequently contribute to deadly crashes.
