The Kabul Tribune (KT)-- U.S. Deputy Representative to the United Nations Tammy Bruce told the U.N. Security Council that countering ISIL, al-Qaida and their affiliates remains a key priority, warning that the "persistent threat" from ISIL-K in Afghanistan continues to pose a security challenge.

Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, the international community, including Afghanistan's neighboring countries, has repeatedly expressed concern over what they describe as the Taliban's insufficient commitment to countering terrorist groups. According to U.N. assessments, more than 20 terrorist groups are present in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
