The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The United Nations Population Fund and the Japan International Cooperation Agency have held talks on strengthening midwifery services and addressing maternal and reproductive health needs in Afghanistan.

UNFPA Afghanistan said on X that representatives of the two organizations met to discuss potential collaboration aimed at improving midwifery services across the country.

“Together, we are committed to supporting quality care and better health outcomes for Afghan women, girls and families,” UNFPA Afghanistan said.

The discussions come as access to quality maternal and reproductive health services remains an important concern in Afghanistan, particularly for women and girls facing barriers to health care.

Strengthening midwifery services could help improve access to essential care for pregnant women and mothers, particularly in communities where health services are limited.

UNFPA and JICA did not provide further details on the specific projects or timeline for their planned cooperation.
