The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Türkiye’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin visited Pakistan after a trip to Afghanistan, holding talks with senior Pakistani officials on bilateral relations, regional security and tensions in the Middle East, Türkiye’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported Thursday, citing Turkish security sources.
During his visit to Islamabad, Kalin met Pakistan’s army
chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the director-general of Inter-Services
Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Asim Malik. He also met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The talks covered the current state of Türkiye-Pakistan
relations, opportunities for greater cooperation and regional and international
developments, according to the sources.
The officials discussed the security situation in the Middle
East following the start of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, as well as rising
regional tensions and the conflict’s political, security and economic
consequences for countries in the region.
They also assessed the risk of the conflict spreading to
other countries and regions, the sources said.
Recent tensions and developments between Yemen and Saudi
Arabia, along with their potential impact on regional stability, were also
discussed.
The talks highlighted the importance of the Mecca Joint
Defense Agreement as a framework for cooperation among the parties as they seek
to restore regional stability.
The officials also emphasized the roles of Türkiye and
Pakistan in helping reduce tensions and keeping diplomatic channels open.
Türkiye said it would continue efforts to help resolve
tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan through dialogue, as it has done
previously.
The two sides also agreed to further strengthen existing
high-level cooperation in security and intelligence.
Türkiye reiterated its support for Pakistan in its fight
against terrorism and said it would continue supporting efforts to strengthen
Pakistan’s counterterrorism capabilities.
Kalin’s visit to Pakistan followed talks with senior Afghan
officials in Kabul and Kandahar, according to Türkiye’s state-run Anadolu
Agency.
