The Kabul Tribune (KT)— Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned a deadly attack on a mosque in Kohat, a city in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, calling attacks on places of worship “unjustifiable and condemnable acts.”

The ministry expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attack.

The condemnation is notable as Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan of allowing the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, and other militant groups to operate from Afghan soil and carry out attacks in Pakistan. Afghan Taliban authorities have denied providing support to militants targeting Pakistan.

The statement followed a blast during Friday prayers near the old Police Lines mosque in Kohat that killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens of others.

Pakistani police said preliminary investigations indicated that a vehicle loaded with explosives had been driven toward the mosque before exploding.

The blast caused extensive damage to the mosque building, according to police.

Authorities were investigating the circumstances of the attack and working to determine who was responsible. No group immediately claimed responsibility.
