The Kabul Tribune (KT) — About 5.3 million Afghans are without emergency agricultural support needed for the next planting season because of funding shortages, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.
In a post on X, OCHA Afghanistan said agriculture remains a vital source of food and income for millions of people across the country.
Only about 21% of the 6.68 million people targeted for emergency agricultural assistance are currently covered, leaving millions without support ahead of the next planting season, according to OCHA.
The agency did not specify the total amount of funding needed or identify the main sources of the shortfall in its post.
Agriculture is a key source of livelihoods for many Afghans, particularly in rural areas, where households depend on farming and livestock for food and income.
The funding gap comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant humanitarian needs, with aid agencies warning that limited resources are restricting assistance to vulnerable communities.
