The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A Pakistan Army major was killed in an improvised explosive device attack in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, while security forces killed four militants in a separate operation in Kalat district, the military said Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing, said security forces conducted
operations Sunday in the Shadi Kaur area of Gwadar and Jattakabad in Kalat
after receiving reports of militant activity.
In Jattakabad, security forces carried out an
intelligence-based operation targeting a militant hideout, killing four
militants and recovering a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, the military
said.
In a separate operation in Shadi Kaur, a security forces
contingent was targeted with an IED, killing Maj. Wajahat Waheed, 37, a
resident of Lahore, according to the military.
The military said clearance operations would continue until
the remaining militants in the area were eliminated.
Pakistan has faced a surge in militant violence,
particularly in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and
southwestern Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in
Afghanistan in 2021.
The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, an
Islamabad-based think tank, recorded 225 militant attacks nationwide in
September 2026, up from 199 in August, an increase of 13%. The group said
attacks had risen for a third consecutive month.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Afghanistan’s Taliban
authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch
attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan says the Taliban government has failed to
take effective action against groups targeting Pakistani security forces and
civilians.
Despite multiple rounds of talks, the two countries have yet
to resolve their differences, with the presence of militant groups in
Afghanistan remaining a major source of tension.
