The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Milak border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan has reopened after a temporary closure, allowing trade between the two countries to resume, Iranian officials said Sunday.
Ali Reza Shahraki, the governor of Hirmand district in
Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, told Iranian media that commercial
exchanges restarted following talks with Taliban authorities.
He said the crossing had been closed due to changes in fuel
import standards, which left several Iranian fuel tankers stranded inside
Afghanistan for months.
Shahraki did not specify how long the border was closed but
said the issue had been resolved and the process of unloading and returning the
tankers had begun.
The Milak crossing is a key trade route for Iranian fuel,
cement, food products, and industrial goods headed to Afghanistan. Officials
said exports of these goods resumed Sunday morning.
