The Kabul Tribune (KT) —Mohsin Dawar, a former Pakistani lawmaker and chairman of the National Democratic Movement warned that the Taliban’s nationwide ban on internet services could push Afghanistan toward “complete collapse.”
He said the shutdown is more than an unjust restriction — it is part of a broader effort to erase Afghan identity and suppress knowledge.
“With bans on women, books and more, they’re erasing Afghan
identity and common knowledge,” Dawar said. “The Taliban want to use the region
as a detonation point in global conflict.”
The Taliban enforced the blackout on Sept. 29, cutting off
nearly all digital communication in Afghanistan. International organizations,
including the United Nations, have warned the move has severely disrupted
humanitarian operations, financial transactions and education, especially for
women and girls who rely on online learning due to bans on schooling beyond
primary level.
The Taliban have not commented publicly on the ban, which
comes as Afghanistan faces deepening humanitarian and economic crises.
