According to CNN, the blast occurred early Tuesday afternoon
near the city’s High Court and is being investigated as a suicide attack, a
Pakistani security source confirmed.
The explosion struck the parking lot of Islamabad’s busy
judicial complex, located in a highly secured district housing several senior
government offices. Entry and exit to the capital require stringent security
checks due to multiple security zones across the city.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the
bombing, but CNN quoted a security source as saying that militants linked to
the Afghan Taliban and India were behind the attack.
The incident came less than 24 hours after militants
targeted a cadet college in northwestern Pakistan, underscoring rising security
concerns across the country.
