KT - Afghan
women’s Movement on Saturday condemned a Taliban order cutting off internet
service in several provinces, saying the move has deprived girls of education
and disrupted online businesses that thousands of families rely on.
In a statement, the Afghan Women’s Voice
Movement called the restrictions a violation of human rights and a serious threat
to the country’s future. It said cutting access to the internet undermines
human dignity and halts development.
The group urged the Taliban to restore internet
services immediately, reopen schools for girls, and safeguard economic
opportunities online. It also appealed to the international community not to
remain silent over what it described as widespread human rights violations.
The internet shutdown followed an order by the
Taliban’s supreme leader to cut fiber-optic services in several provinces. As a
result, many girls who were studying online and families running small digital
businesses have faced severe difficulties.
