The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Friday that he spoke with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss bilateral relations, regional stability and ongoing humanitarian challenges.

Anwar wrote on X that the two leaders exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan. He also briefed Sharif on the severe floods affecting Malaysia as well as neighboring Indonesia and Thailand.

Commenting on the recent tensions along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, Anwar said Malaysia is “concerned about the stability of the region” and urged all sides to seek a peaceful solution “through dialogue and diplomatic channels” to prevent further escalation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in past statements regarding the border situation, has emphasized that Pakistan seeks regional stability but expects firm assurances from Kabul that its territory will not be used for cross-border attacks. His government has repeatedly said that Pakistan prefers diplomacy but will take necessary measures to protect its security.

Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia remains hopeful that dialogue will prevail and that all parties will work toward easing tensions in the region.
