The Kabul Tribune (KT) - The U.S. nuclear-powered warship USS Gerald R. Ford left St. Thomas yesterday and is now sailing south toward Venezuela, according to RT.
The deployment is part of former President Donald Trump’s “Operation Southern Spear,” a move aimed at ramping up pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Earlier reports said Trump had warned Maduro to leave the country. Washington increased its pressure after the disputed 2024 elections, which the U.S. deemed illegitimate, claiming the opposition had actually won. Despite ongoing U.S. pressure, Maduro has remained in power.
