The Kabul Tribune (KT) - A young man from Texas has been charged in a US federal court after authorities said he attempted to provide support to ISIS through an undercover law enforcement operation.

The US Department of Justice said the suspect, John Michael Garza Jr., 21, from Midlothian, Texas, was accused of attempting to provide material support or resources to ISIS.

According to officials, Garza met on December 22 with an undercover agent who was posing as a supporter of ISIS. During the meeting, authorities said he brought materials used to make an explosive device, explained how to combine the components, and offered to send a video showing how such a device could be assembled. He was arrested shortly after the meeting.

The Justice Department also said Garza sent small amounts of cryptocurrency to the undercover agent, believing the funds would be used for ISIS-related activities, including the purchase of weapons and other supplies.

US officials said the case came to light after a New York City police officer noticed Garza’s online activity involving accounts that supported ISIS.

Law enforcement officials said the arrest was carried out before anyone was harmed.
