The Kabul Tribune (KT) — International media outlet Intellinews reported that an Afghan asylum seeker has pleaded guilty in a British court to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, in a case that has intensified debate over asylum policy in the United Kingdom.
According to the report, Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to one count of oral rape of the child. He denies additional charges, including child abduction, two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child.
A second defendant, Mohammad Kabir, 24, also an Afghan asylum seeker, denies charges of intentional strangulation, committing an offense with intent to commit a sexual offense and attempting to take a child.
Prosecutors allege the incident took place in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on July 22, 2025. The court heard that Kabir allegedly grabbed the girl by the neck and strangled her in a park at around 6 p.m. Later that evening, Mulakhil allegedly led her to a secluded area where prosecutors say he raped and sexually assaulted her and took indecent images.
Witnesses told the court the girl appeared extremely distressed following the incident. One witness, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, said the child reported being threatened and appeared frightened. Another witness described her as panicked and repeatedly looking over her shoulder.
British prosecutor Daniel Oscroft told jurors that both men allegedly targeted the 12-year-old, arguing that Kabir attempted to take her away with sexual intent, while Mulakhil later assaulted her after remaining in the area.
