The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A report from IRNA on Saturday said at least 40 people were killed in a strike on a girls’ elementary school in southern Iran, an attack the agency attributed to joint military operations by United States and Israel.

The strike hit a school in Minab district of Hormozgan province, IRNA reported. Earlier casualty figures had put the death toll at 24. The agency did not provide details on whether the victims were students, staff or nearby residents.

The reported attack came hours after coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on multiple targets inside Iran, part of a rapidly escalating confrontation between the longtime adversaries. Iran responded with missile launches toward Israel and several Gulf states hosting U.S. military facilities, according to state media.

Neither the U.S. nor Israel immediately commented on the school strike, and independent verification of the casualty figures was not available. Officials in Iran said comprehensive assessments of damage and casualties from the morning’s attacks were still underway.
