The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari said Monday that his country “strongly condemns the war being waged on Iran while negotiations were under way” and reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of what he described as Pakistan’s “brotherly nation,” Iran.
Zardari made the remarks in an address to a joint sitting of
Pakistan’s Parliament, saying Islamabad was deeply concerned about recent
developments in the Middle East and calling for peaceful solutions through
restraint and diplomacy.
He also condemned what he described as retaliatory strikes
by Iran on neighboring Gulf states and stressed the importance of upholding
international law and territorial integrity.
There was no immediate comment from U.S. or Israeli
officials on Zardari’s remarks.
The comments come amid escalating conflict in the Middle East following U.S.
and Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent Iranian operations in the region,
raising concerns about wider instability and prompting calls from various
nations for diplomacy and de-escalation.
