The Kabul Tribune (KT) - About 68,000 children in eastern Afghanistan have been forced from their homes due to clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, Save the Children reported.

The organization said roughly 134,000 people have been affected by disruptions to health, nutrition, child protection, and education programs. Hundreds of classes and temporary learning spaces have been suspended, leaving over 8,000 children out of school and in urgent need of protection and psychosocial support.

Since 26 February, about 56 people have been killed and more than 120 injured, mostly women and children, according to Save the Children citing UN reports. Many families have also lost access to food and basic services.

Arshad Malik, Asia Regional Director at Save the Children, said: “Tens of thousands of children have lost everything that gives them stability and security. The only way to truly protect children’s lives is to halt the violence. We call on all parties to de-escalate the situation and ensure children are protected at all times.”

Save the Children has so far provided health services for over 6,000 people, psychosocial support for around 450 children, and cash assistance for about 350 families. Emergency support will continue in coordination with local partners.
