The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres held a telephone conversation on Wednesday to discuss recent regional developments following attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.
During the call, Araghchi described the impact of the
attacks on civilian areas, including schools, hospitals, residential
neighborhoods, and historical sites. He stressed Iran’s view that these actions
violate international law and humanitarian principles and called for the
international community to respond.
The Iranian minister also highlighted Tehran’s right to
self-defense and warned that any U.S. military action could result in broader
regional consequences, including potential attacks on U.S. facilities in the
area. Araghchi said such measures would be taken within the framework of
international law to protect Iranian citizens.
Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the importance of
upholding international law and avoiding further escalation. He acknowledged
Iran’s right to self-defense and stressed the need to prevent the spread of
conflict while minimizing humanitarian and security impacts in the region.
The conversation reflects ongoing international attention to
heightened tensions in the Middle East and the calls from both sides for
adherence to legal and humanitarian standards.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated in recent
months following a series of military strikes, cyber incidents, and diplomatic
disputes in the Middle East. Both countries have accused each other of hostile
actions, while the United States has also been involved in regional security
operations. These developments have raised international concern over potential
wider conflict in the region and the impact on civilian populations, critical
infrastructure, and regional stability
