The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Richard Bennett said the United Nations has observed significant changes in Afghanistan’s judicial system, stating that the Taliban have reshaped the country’s legal structure to align with their ideological framework.
Speaking at a side event of the United Nations on Thursday,
Bennett said the Taliban had “overhauled Afghanistan’s judicial system,
abolished previous laws and altered or replaced institutions to serve their
ideological and misogynistic model.”
He added that the Taliban had also replaced judges with what
he described as “loyal mullahs,” fundamentally changing the structure and
function of the judiciary in Afghanistan.
Bennett has repeatedly raised concerns at international
forums about human rights conditions in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned
to power in 2021.
