The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Donald Trump claimed that Iran is close to surrendering amid the ongoing conflict involving United States and Israel.
According to a report by Axios, Trump made the remarks during a virtual meeting with leaders of the Group of Seven, citing three officials from member countries. The report was published Friday, March 13.
During the meeting, Trump reportedly discussed the results of U.S. military operations against Iran, describing them as “removing a cancer that threatened us all.”
However, he also said there was no clear official in Tehran who could formally announce a surrender, adding: “No one knows who the leader is.”
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Iran is attempting to strengthen its position by increasing pressure in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route. Recent attacks on oil tankers in the area have pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel.
According to Axios, other G7 leaders urged Trump during the meeting to end the war as soon as possible and ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel has now entered its 14th day, raising growing global concerns about its economic and security consequences.
