The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Amir Khan Muttaqi held a phone conversation with Wang Yi to discuss recent clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan, as well as the broader regional security situation.

In a statement released Friday, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry said the two officials also discussed expanding bilateral relations between Afghanistan and China, regional security developments and recent events in the region.

According to the statement, Muttaqi emphasized the Taliban’s economy-focused foreign policy and said the group seeks to expand economic cooperation and build relations with regional countries based on trust and mutual respect.

He also raised Pakistan’s recent airstrikes on Afghan territory, saying Afghanistan has the right to defend its people and sovereignty, while also supporting political and diplomatic solutions to resolve the crisis.

Wang, meanwhile, stressed the importance of strengthening relations between China and Afghanistan and said military solutions cannot resolve regional disputes.

He added that dialogue and political understanding are necessary to reduce tensions, and that China is ready to help promote trust and de-escalation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
