The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan’s Meteorology Department under the Taliban-led Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has warned of heavy rain and snowfall across several provinces of the country, along with thunderstorms and relatively strong winds.
The department said that on March 22, 2026, there is a risk
of heavy precipitation in parts of Afghanistan, affecting Herat, Farah, Nimroz,
Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Daykundi, Faryab, Balkh, Samangan,
Sar-e-Pul, Bamiyan, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Logar,
Parwan, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces,
including the Salang Pass.
According to the forecast, rainfall and snowfall levels are
expected to range between 10 and 30 millimeters. Strong winds with speeds of 15
to 75 kilometers per hour are also expected in northern, western, southern and
central regions of the country.
Officials warned that flash floods could occur in warmer
areas and urged residents to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary
travel, particularly on mountainous roads.
Afghanistan typically experiences unstable weather
conditions during the spring season, often accompanied by heavy rainfall, flash
floods and disruptions to road networks.
