The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran’s Mehr News Agency, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry, has reported that there are ongoing initiatives involving the United States aimed at reducing tensions, while stressing that Washington must serve as the primary interlocutor in any diplomatic process.
According to the report, Iranian officials said such efforts
are being facilitated through regional actors as part of broader attempts to
de-escalate the conflict. Tehran also reiterated its position that it did not
initiate the war.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and
conflicting reports over whether direct or indirect contacts are taking place
between Tehran and Washington.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Washington
and Tehran had engaged in “productive conversations,” while Iranian officials
have at times denied the existence of direct negotiations.
The developments reflect ongoing uncertainty over diplomatic
channels as regional and international actors continue efforts to reduce
escalation in the Middle East.
