The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban local officials said that starting Saturday, foreign cargo vehicles will be allowed to enter the Islam-Qala Border Crossing without a visa or “road pass,” unload goods, and then return to their destinations.
Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Herat, said in a Friday, March 27 statement that implementing the plan could help reduce transportation costs, lower commodity prices, and create daily job opportunities for over 1,000 people.
According to the statement, the decision followed a meeting led by Islam-Jar with officials from relevant departments, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Customs, Transport, and the Islam-Qala Commissariat.
The meeting discussed how to implement the directive effectively, with local Taliban officials receiving the necessary guidance for enforcement.
The announcement comes amid ongoing trade between Afghanistan and Iran, despite recent clashes in Iran and rising oil prices, which have also affected the cost of essential goods in Afghanistan.
