The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Khawaja Asif said military operations in Afghanistan have no fixed timeline and will continue until their objectives are achieved.
In an interview with Geo News, Asif said Pakistan has
increased pressure but has not yet met the goals set for the operations. He
added that it remains unclear how the situation will evolve in the long term.
Asif noted that global attention is currently focused on
conflicts in the Middle East and Iran, which he said is also affecting other
regional crises.
Regarding efforts to resolve tensions between the Taliban
and Islamabad, he said Qatar and Turkey have engaged in diplomatic mediation,
and that China could also play an important role. He added that China has
investments and ongoing economic activities in Afghanistan.
Tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan have escalated in
recent months, with both sides accusing each other of cross-border attacks
along the Durand Line. Pakistan has carried out airstrikes in Kabul and other
provinces, while the Taliban have claimed retaliatory drone strikes targeting
military sites in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Meanwhile, human rights organizations say civilians have
borne the brunt of the violence, with hundreds reportedly killed or injured so
far.
Despite mediation efforts by Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia,
and China, no breakthrough has been achieved.
Separately, religious scholars from Afghanistan and Pakistan
have called for a ceasefire extension through the upcoming Eid holiday and
urged both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue.
