The Kabul Tribune (KT) — At least 14 people have been killed and 17 others injured in natural disasters across Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, Taliban officials said.
Yousuf Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban’s National Disaster Management Authority, said the casualties were caused by heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and lightning in multiple provinces.
The incidents were reported in Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Daikundi, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Helmand, Herat, Ghor, Balkh, Samangan, Jawzjan, and Badakhshan, he said.
According to Hamad, 50 houses were completely destroyed, while 426 others were partially damaged. At least 16 shops were also affected.
He added that the distribution of food and non-food assistance to affected families has begun.
From Afghanistan’s perspective, the rising number of casualties highlights the country’s vulnerability to seasonal natural disasters and the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and response.
The development comes as Taliban authorities had earlier reported that 28 people were killed in recent floods and heavy rains across several provinces.
