The Kabul Tribune (KT) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel supports U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes on Iran for two weeks, while making clear that the pause does not apply to Lebanon, Reuters reported.

The statement said Israel backs the temporary halt in attacks on Iran on condition that Tehran immediately opens key sea routes and stops attacks against the United States, Israel, and other countries in the region. The move follows Washington’s announcement of a two-week suspension of military action aimed at creating space for negotiations with Tehran.

Israel also said it supports U.S. efforts to ensure Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, or “terror” threat to the United States, Israel, and neighboring Arab states. It added that Washington has assured Israel it remains committed to these shared goals in upcoming talks.

Iran said negotiations with the United States are set to begin on Friday, April 10 in Islamabad.

White House officials confirmed that Israel has agreed to the temporary suspension of strikes against Iran. However, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who helped mediate the agreement, said the deal also includes a halt to Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon — a point Israel disputes.

The conflict in Lebanon has escalated sharply in recent months, with heavy casualties and large-scale displacement. The war widened after Hezbollah began firing rockets toward Israel in support of Iran, prompting Israeli military operations in response.
