The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban have suspended the broadcasts of an educational radio station known as “Lawang” in Khost province, according to local sources.
The head of the station, Hayatullah Saber, told The Kabul
Tribune that all broadcasts were halted following a decision by the Taliban.
He said the station had been airing educational and
instructional programs but was shut down for unclear reasons.
Saber added that the suspension was carried out on the order
of the provincial Department of Education and based on an official letter from
the Department of Information and Culture.
Meanwhile, a source told The Kabul Tribune that the station
was closed for allegedly failing to adhere to Taliban guidelines regarding
girls’ interactions, claiming that its programs allowed open communication
involving girls.
Officials from the radio station have called on the Taliban
to allow them to resume operations.
