The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday, holding in-depth talks on bilateral relations and major global challenges.
The meeting marked their first in-person talks this year,
following several phone conversations, and focused on strengthening
coordination ahead of upcoming engagements between the two countries’ leaders.
Lavrov said the current international situation is facing
serious challenges, pointing to developments in Latin America, the Middle East
and ongoing tensions in Ukraine.
He criticized what he described as Western efforts to
escalate the Ukraine conflict and warned against the formation of new political
and military blocs in Eurasia.
The Russian foreign minister also raised concerns over
rising tensions in East Asia, including issues related to Taiwan, the South
China Sea and the Korean Peninsula.
The ministry said the two sides discussed expanding
cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, BRICS
and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as broader efforts to shape
a new Eurasian security architecture.
Lavrov described the meeting as timely and emphasized the
need for practical and coordinated steps to address global instability.
