The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan said that Saudi Arabia has committed an additional $3 billion in financial support and extended an existing $5 billion deposit for a longer period.
Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb made the
announcement while speaking to media in Washington, D.C. on the sidelines of
the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings 2026.
He said the additional Saudi deposit is expected to be
disbursed in the coming week, adding that the extended $5 billion deposit will
no longer follow the previous annual rollover arrangement.
Aurangzeb said the support comes at a critical time for
Pakistan’s external financing needs and will help strengthen foreign exchange
reserves and stabilize the country’s external account.
He added that Pakistan remains committed to meeting its
obligations under the International Monetary Fund program and aims to build
reserves of around $18 billion by the end of the fiscal year.
The finance minister also noted that Pakistan had recently
repaid a $1.4 billion Eurobond, describing it as a “non-event,” and reaffirmed
the government’s commitment to meeting all upcoming external debt obligations
on time.
He expressed gratitude to Saudi leadership, including Crown
Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Finance Minister Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan,
for continued financial cooperation.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan is also advancing broader financing
initiatives, including a Global Medium-Term Note program and its first Panda
Bond issuance, aimed at diversifying funding sources and improving market
access.
He concluded that recent international support and
diplomatic engagement are helping improve confidence in Pakistan’s economic
outlook and external financial position.
