The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A traffic accident on the Kabul–Kandahar highway has killed five people and injured one other in Afghanistan’s Maidan Wardak province, local authorities said.
The office of the Taliban governor in Maidan Wardak said the
incident took place late Thursday night in the “Aziz Kala” area of Saydabad
district.
According to the statement, the vehicle, a minivan, veered
off the road and overturned due to excessive speeding. Officials said driver
negligence was the main cause of the crash.
Traffic accidents have increased significantly across
Afghanistan in recent years. Experts attribute the rise to factors including
reckless driving, poor road conditions, high speed and lack of compliance with
traffic regulations.
Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise
caution and prioritize passenger safety during travel. The Taliban-run Ministry
of Transport and Civil Aviation previously announced plans to install GPS
tracking systems in passenger vehicles as part of efforts to reduce road
accidents.
