The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Four people were killed after an avalanche struck a
mountainous area in northeastern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, Taliban
authorities said on Wednesday.
The Taliban police command in Badakhshan said the incident
occurred in the Dara Shakhro area of Kuf Ab district, where the victims were
buried under snow while traveling.
According to officials, the individuals were on their way to
Raghistan district for work when they were caught in the avalanche and lost
their lives.
Authorities said the bodies were recovered from the snow on
Wednesday and handed over to their families.
Badakhshan, one of Afghanistan’s most mountainous and cold
regions, experiences frequent avalanches during the winter and spring seasons.
Residents in remote areas, who often rely on hazardous
routes for travel and work, are particularly vulnerable to such natural
disasters.
