The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and
Livestock has inaugurated the 34th National Agricultural Products Exhibition
alongside a farmers festival in Kabul, aimed at promoting investment and
strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.
The event is being held at the Badam Bagh research farm
under the theme “Investment in Afghanistan’s Agriculture and Livestock Sector;
The Most Reliable Path to Economic Growth and Development.”
Taliban ministry spokesman Sher Mohammad Hatemi said the
exhibition opened on Wednesday and will continue until April 25.
According to officials, a total of 263 booths have been set
up, showcasing a wide range of agricultural products, horticulture and
livestock equipment, saffron, medicinal plants, agricultural machinery, and
other related items.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Taliban Agriculture
Minister Ataullah Omari called on investors to focus on domestic production and
development of agriculture and livestock instead of relying on imports.
He added that Afghanistan aims to achieve self-sufficiency
in agriculture and livestock in the coming years and eventually expand exports
of these products.
The annual farmers festival and agricultural exhibition in
Kabul are designed to promote local products, attract investment, and support
the development of the agriculture sector. Afghanistan remains largely an
agrarian economy, with a significant portion of the population relying on
farming for their livelihoods, despite ongoing challenges including limited
investment and modernization.
