The Kabul Tribune (KT) — World Health Organization Afghanistan office announced the start of World Immunization Week, highlighting the importance of vaccines in saving lives and protecting communities.
In a statement, the organization said immunization has, for
generations, played a critical role in safeguarding public health, protecting
families, and strengthening societies both in Afghanistan and globally.
Edwin Ceniza Salvador, the WHO Representative to
Afghanistan, said vaccines remain one of humanity’s greatest achievements,
helping save lives today while protecting future generations.
The campaign emphasizes that vaccination works for all age
groups — from newborns to older adults — and continues to be a key tool in
preventing disease.
World Immunization Week is observed annually to promote the
use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease, especially in
countries facing health system challenges and limited access to medical services.
