The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Reuters reported that U.S. officials said an internal Pentagon email outlines potential measures against NATO allies perceived as not supporting U.S. operations in the war with Iran.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the proposals include the possibility of suspending Spain from NATO and reviewing Washington’s stance on Britain’s claim to the Falkland Islands.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the email reflects frustration within the Pentagon over some allies’ reluctance to provide access, basing, and overflight rights for U.S. military operations.

The document reportedly described such cooperation as a basic expectation within NATO and suggested limiting the roles of countries deemed uncooperative within the alliance.

Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO allies for failing to support efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz and has raised the possibility of reassessing U.S. commitments to the alliance.

Pentagon officials said the options are intended to send a strong signal to European allies and address what they described as a “sense of entitlement” among some countries.

Spain’s government downplayed the report, saying official policy decisions are not based on internal emails.

The reported proposals come amid growing tensions between the United States and its NATO partners following the conflict with Iran, raising broader questions about the future cohesion of the alliance.
