The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met with China’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, regional developments, and expanding cooperation, according to a statement.

The Taliban’s Interior Ministry said both sides exchanged views on ways to further enhance ties between Afghanistan and China, while also noting Beijing’s role in addressing regional issues.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Afghanistan seeks overall regional stability, with the Taliban administration focusing on resolving internal challenges, maintaining security, and improving the economic and social well-being of its people.

The talks come as the Taliban continue efforts to expand diplomatic and economic relations with neighboring and regional countries, particularly China, which has shown interest in Afghanistan’s economic projects and regional connectivity in recent years.

China, for its part, has highlighted the importance of stability, security, and shared economic interests in its engagement with Afghanistan, while supporting broader regional cooperation.
